What was our purpose and what did we do tonight?
Our purpose in session 10 was to follow its agenda: recall chapter 9, cover chapter 10 and finish up with all of the assigned presentations. In this session we went over some housekeeping with answering questions from students, then recalling chapter 9 and specifically going over interpersonal skills to be prepared for Sales Training presentation by Robert. Then the instructor started covering chapter 10 (Employee Counseling and Wellness Services) to have students present about this topic. There were 5 presentations (Employee Counseling, Employee Assistance Program, Stress Management Programs, Wellness Health Programs, and Work Life Balance).

What went well?
Students presenting were well prepared and came to class on time. They did their presentations within the time frame scheduled and we even finished the class earlier than expected which indicates that everything was going smoothly as planned.

Luckily everything went fine and as planned although we had higher number of presenters than usual. Some students presented for less than what is required (15 minutes) which I believe was the reason behind finishing earlier with this number of presenters. So, I would say that if some of the presenters were to spend more time (around 15 minutes) this would affect negatively on the scheduled agenda and would causes delays on the assigned presentations.

What do we (instructor or students) need to improve?
First of all, students were not very participative during that session. For example, when the instructor asked about their opinions regarding the test and the extra sessions we have, they were silent and were not sure what to say. Also, when instructor commented on each presentation with asking questions to students, most of them were inactive and quit. So students should be more active during discussions by giving their full attention to what is being

Thirty years ago, students attending Wahconah Regional High School had a different experience as they went through their normal activities of the year. For example, if a student were to play two sports throughout the course of an academic year, they did not have to pay a sports fee (today that fee is $100). Why is that? The answer is simple. Funding is different because the tax system imposed on the seven surrounding towns.…

The students were asking questions about safety and what they should be aware of. I appreciated having the background knowledge to be able to have a conversation like this with my students. I want to take the knowledge I gained and share it with parents, students, and/or staff as appropriate. The important thing to take away from workshops is information to share with others. As a leader, I will continue to be a lifelong learner and take the information I learn and pass that on to my staff.…

For my peer evaluation, I assessed Carolyn Sutherland who is a history major here at Cal Poly. Her first speech was informative about what you can do with a history major and why it appealed to her. Her second speech was also informative, but this one focus more on the incorrect information we have been taught in our primary history classes. Both speeches she gave were easy to follow and very informational, but she did make some improvements between the first and second speech. Carolyn’s first speech was very easy to listen to.…

My strategic plan on dealing with employees under the influence of alcohol is to implement an Employee Assistance Program at Kmart. I will create a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) Analysis to identify our strong/weak points and opportunities/threats with the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Once I know our threats and weaknesses in the program, I will work on improving in those particular areas. For instance, previously Kmart’s computer system was hacked and customers/employees information was at risk. This was a threat to our company, so we upgraded our security system.…

Teaching controversial issues in the classroom through discussion is the most beneficial method for students to learn about these matters because it teaches them how to be open-minded, think critically about their own beliefs, and forces them to master their public speaking and interpersonal skills. The benefits of using discussions in classrooms to teach contentious topics are endless but the three previously mentioned have proven to be the most valuable by students, teachers, and parents everywhere. Class discussions force students to listen, embrace, and be respectful of opinions and beliefs that are divergent to their own. As mentioned by David Bridges (1979), an author who has formerly analyzed the notion of discussion, the sharing of…

When I delivered the teaching session, the experience was an overall success with students showing a clear interest and engaging in the lesson (Table 1, question 10, mean 4.3). The teaching began with a clear introduction to the key learning points for the whole session (Table 1, question 5, mean 4.3), which allowed the students to understand what the session was going to entail. This was beneficial to those who needed to see the big picture to see how topics fit together[1]. I further explained that the session will be split into three sections and explained that certain learning outcomes will be covered in each section. Student feedback stated that there was “enthusiastic teaching in appropriate sized teaching bites.”…

That really disappointed me that I was unable to involve the students during my lecture. Few of the junior students also felt that I should have reviewed the topic material in a clear and concise manner (approximately 87%). Due to lack of time I did rush through my content and wanted to cover all my slides. After receiving the student evaluation form I was surprised that almost 45 students out of 75 were pleased with my presentation. This really surprised me, because more than half of the class was happy with my session.…
