Empiric knowledge is the science of nursing that includes facts, descriptions, conceptual models and theories to explain, describe and predict the phenomenon and, are measurable and verifiable through repeated testing over time (Chinn & Kramer, 2010). There are several strengths and benefits of empiric knowledge as a way to inform nursing practice. According to the Porter (2010) empiric knowledge is focused on development of science of nursing which involves using evidence based practice to make decisions on patient care. It helps us understand the consequences of any given clinical situation. It gives meaning to facts and our isolated observation (Chinn, 2010). Evidence based practice incorporates best research evidence, health care resources, patient preferences, clinical circumstances and clinician judgement.
