Empire State Building Paper Tower

Decent Essays
Our group members consisted of Clifford, Dalton, and me. Our mission was to build a paper tower as tall as possible with a foot of scotch tape, a stack of papers, and five paper clips. The purpose of our design was to build a paper tower that can withstand a simulated wind test in class. The intent goal was to build a tower modeled after the empire state building. This design was chosen because the empire state building has a strong base and skeletal structure. Throughout the years the empire state building has proven itself by withstanding many natural weather occurrences from its surrounding.

Discussion For lab 2, our group has a hard time working on some part. There were several mistakes, which hold us for the entire hour. First, writing code wasn’t bad, but the error made in the code takes time to debug it. And even for the pin planner, we had assigned a wrong pin on some output/input, which also take time to re-assign it. Building and Testing Truth Tables (Concurrent logic)…

This source was somewhat helpful to me. It helped shape the argument of building structure because it provided supporting evidence about the structure of the Twin Towers, along with what the architect wanted to achieve when he designed the towers. It has not had an impact on my opinion of the topic. Chossudovsky’s…

It is more common for the public to hear of disasters rather disasters that were narrowly missed. In “The Fifty-Nine-Story Crisis”, Joe Morgenstern tells the tale of structural engineer William LeMessurier navigating complicated ethical decisions in order to salvage a flawed building. By doing this LeMessurier risked his entire career and could have harmed thousands of people had he not made the right decisions. When LeMessurier had a student question a building he helped design, the Citicorp Center, he decided to test whether quartering winds would increase the strain on the building.…

For this ITT Tech Capstone project, I chose to avoid the pre-built electronics kits and create something practical and with purpose for my daughter Kylie. The project required more preparation and artistic ability, but was more rewarding and functional. The project plan was to create an entrance way for the Northwest Elementary Fifth grade graduation ceremony, by designing the capstone project to this goal, I was able to reduce the ceremony cost for the Parent and Teacher Association (PTA) and reduce the amount fundraising required for the Fifth grade graduation ceremony. The key to an electronic device is not just the components it contains, but the way they are arranged in circuits, some projects, like this one, call…

At the end of the center of the eastern section of the Mall in Washington D.C. stands the Washington Monument. The monument rises just over 555' tall and was finished in 1884. The shape of the Washington Monument is that of an Egyptian obelisk which stands as an anchor for the Capital of the Nation. What is unique about this structure is not only its enormous size (it is the tallest obelisk in the world) but its change of material color of the monument from the bottom third of the structure. This was due to a lapse in time during construction and many years passed before it was resumed, at that time the same stone used to start the monument has been depleted thus there was a search for new stone.…

Two words no one wants to hear come out of a teacher’s mouth: “math project.” That’s right, I, along with the rest of the math class was assigned a math project in which we had to build a functioning catapult that would launch a ping pong ball at least 3 meters in order to get it inside a small box. Talk about complicated. To make matters worse, we did not have the liberty to choose our own groups and enjoy myself while working on the project because she assigned the groups too. The group that I was in, wasn’t too terrible, but it could have been better.…
