It began in Europe, particularly in Paris and it appeared right before World War I and began to go international in the 1920s. The style is known for its rich colors, classical architecture, straight lines and its exceptional geometrical shapes. The style of Streamline Moderne is related to the Art Deco architectural features. It was influenced by modern aerodynamic principles. The outside of the structure was designed by the use of limestone panels. The landmark is tiered, has 73 elevators and more than 6,000 windows. The well-known landmark is 102 stories high and stands approximately 1,454 feet tall. The Empire State Building has the resemblance of an ancient Egyptian pyramid. William F. Lamb, one of the main architects that designed the Empire State Building, attended Columbia University’s School of Architecture. The project involved about 3,400 workers. It was the tallest building in the world until 1972, when the original Twin Towers at New York’s World Trade Center were completed.
