War can change many people in many ways. A prime example was the protagonist of Empire of the Sun, Jim. In the beginning of this movie, Jim was a very upbeat and curious character, but was also very stubborn. The story takes place in China, with a population of British people living in an area that is like a “mini-Britain”. What happens next would be traumatizing for anyone. The Japanese, had planned an attack on China, to try and take the country for themselves. There were mobs of people being guided by large military tanks, and Jim managed to be separated from his parents. He succeeded in escaping the grasp of the Japanese, to find his house, only to find that it had been claimed by the king of Japan. Jim survived in his house with mere morsels.
