However, was America ever intended to be a democracy, or democratic republic, in the first place? From observing America’s interactions with other nations and obtained territories, many claim that America is an empire. In reality, both parties pushing the concept of either empire or democracy are incorrect. A nation is not a democracy simply because the peoples are involved with government elections, and it is not an empire solely due to the fact it has peripheral territories outside of the core land, or because it gained land from a war.
