“Alright Girls, we are back on land.” Mr. Water says helping us out of the boat. I think we all must look like a bunch of crazy people because all of us are just standing there, looking at all that we missed over the past two and a half years. In fact, we’re standing still so long that Mr. Waters laughs at us and takes each of our hands and drags us along. When we get up past the boating dock, we see a celebration has taken place because we have all made it back. Everyone’s screaming, holding banners, setting up a giant table of food, and jumping up and down. I see Emily race off to her family, Abby to hers and I run over to mine. When I get to my family, they all surround me in a huge hug, and saying how much they were worried and missed me and glad that I am ok. …show more content…

My six word memoir was “Fought through the labyrinth of solitude” because I wasn’t really alone physically because I had my family but none of them understood me or I couldn’t show them I true self, like who I really am. It wasn’t really easy to do because I felt insecure even though I shouldn’t feel that way. I stayed true to myself and I kept that in mind and it gave me the strength to push through. So mentally I was me but outside I was a totally different person that everybody expected me to be but even though I had some faith that that would end someday.…

Her dreams hadn’t been peaceful, nor did they have much time to develop. It seemed like she was only just laying her head down on her pillow, exhausted to the bone, when the subtle shift of her mattress pulled her from its depths. Was her alarm sounding? Had she slept in later than she intended, running late for work? As the brute got comfortable and eased the sheets down to expose her shoulders, Isla took a slow breath in, confused by the deep voice pressed tightly against her ear.…

“Miami isn’t too far; it is ninety-five miles away at the most…” Maya’s cherubic features made it hard to fabricate an excuse for wanting to stay in Cuba. I knew that staying here, staying in poverty, predisposed me to a life of misery and malnourishment. The journey would be perilous, which made me wonder if it was worth it. I longed to voice my dissent and convince her to condone the actions of the corrupt government, however I knew the time to liberate had come. My patience for living life as nothing more than a pitiful pauper, salvaging and pilfering for my next meal was beyond exhausted.…

It was a gloomy day. I was at our Subdivision’s Local Beach getting ready to swim out to the raft with my four friends. The “raft” as we called it was the bottom end of a Pontoon Boat anchored in the center of Dollar Lake. Occasionally the rain and winds blew it. When my friends arrived we dove into the shallow end of the beach and acquainted our bodies with the cold, late Summer temperature.…

Suddenly, a white and fluffy baby poodle came jumping at the second me, reaching their paw at my precious chocolate. His eyes wide, he lost balance and nearly fell out of the chair. Really, this shouldn’t be so scary, but I’ve been scared of dogs ever since, especially cute ones. Leaping back to the present, I stopped abruptly, before the road that blocked my route home due to the onslaught of cars.
