Emperor penguins really aren’t birds. Well, they are, but have little characteristics that are like birds. Emperor penguins are astounding creatures with many features that allow them to survive. As most people know they can’t fly though they are known to be excellent swimmers . The Emperor penguins is part of the Aptenodytes Genus also known as the Great Penguins. ("Emperor Penguin" 2011) The scientific name for the emperor penguin is aptenodytes forsteri. ("Emperor Penguin") Emperor penguin are amazing birds but aren’t like other birds .They are equipped with means to survive an harsh winter and be able to reproduce.
The Emperor penguin reproduction process is an long journey from beginning to end. The female transfers the egg to the male but has to be cautious. So the egg doesn’t touch the ice and freeze. After the female give the male the egg. She goes to the ocean which is an far trip to eat. In this two month period the male doesn’t eat and watches over the egg. The keeps the egg warm in his brood pouch.When the female returns from the ocean she feeds the chick by regurgitating her food after they switch off .Then the male can go and get something to eat.
