The American Dream is what everyone was striving for in the novel was about gaining wealth and material possessions to find happiness. The life of the roaring twenties was full of parties, laughter, and entertainment. In this time period, Tom and Daisy were more worried about their image and possessions than having a healthy marriage. In the novel The Great Gatsby by Francis Scott Fitzgerald, is a novel of the restrained love between a man and a woman , Daisy Buchanan and Jay Gatsby. Jay Gatsby spends most of the novel finding any way possible to reconnect with Daisy and find the love the two shared 5 years previous. In this time the relationships started changing into more modern values. Which is a prime example of the relationship between Tom and Daisy in The Great Gatsby. The characters in the novel seem to forget about their morals and values, and are overtaken by money and high social class view.Tom and Daisy have a very unhealthy relationship that is purely only for convenience. Tom enjoys the idea of having the beautiful girl that everyone dreams to be with. While Daisy as well enjoys the idea of having a husband that is well known for his money and can satisfy her high maintenance needs. Tom and Daisy both have affairs throughout the novel and neither of them seem to care enough to risk their reputation. This type of relationship is beginning to be very common throughout the 1930s era. Tom and Daisy will never be satisfied with what they have. Most readers still question the point of having a relationship when neither of them are truly committed to one another. The important things in life are love and happiness and if you aren’t in love and happy with someone there is no point in being with
