The origins of basic motives start when you are a newborn. You cry and suck because those are the newborn urges. Basic behaviors cannot be taught to a newborn because they are already instilled in you. Complex motives are something you gain along the way of growing up. You may gain the motive to reproduce or to have a better life. “All of our behaviors, actions, thoughts, and beliefs are influenced by our inner drive to succeed” (Rabideau, 2005, para. 2). Your inner drive to succeed influence your motives which then influence your behaviors.
Emotional responses such as depression, anxiety, and anger can influence your stress level. Emotional response makes it harder for you to cope with obstacles in your life. Sometimes “stress within your comfort zone can help you perform under pressure, and motivates you to do your best” (J. Segal, Smith R. Segal, Robinson, 2016, para.1).
