But her cover makes sense, since no one suspects her of trading information with the enemy, and many will easily and quickly dismiss her. However, the sniper manages to gun her down, which was something he has not expected as well. Throughout the story, the sniper gives less emotion, and gets keener on the war. Korb’s commentary states “no doubts about his actions or about the war itself distract him, not even when he kills the raggedy old woman who dies like a dog in the gutter” (Korb 227). This shows how the sniper displays no compassion or emotion when taking another life.…

The beating of his wife occurs during the Week of Peace, of which is unheard. This proves that Okonkwo cannot control his violent behavior, or he does not care too. Okonkwo feels that “To show affection [is] a sign of weakness; the only thing worth demonstrating [is] strength” (28). Consequently, Okonkwo beats and nearly shoots his second wife, Ekwefi, for the mere act of her cutting a couple leaves from a banana tree. “Without further argument Okonkwo [gives] her a sound beating and [leaves] her and her only daughter weeping” (38).…

There was no thought of rebellion or disobedience in her mind (87).” The only emotion the animals have is fear. In both books the effects of both dictators cause the characters in both books to show no emotion toward anyone or themselves. While in both novels they have clear differences they have on similar goal for themselves. Big Brother wanted complete power.…

Readers don’t feel sympathy toward Okonkwo because he commits domestic violence and is incapable of showing love toward his family. Okonkwo uses his wives as outlets for his aggression. Once his wife, Ojiugo, used banana peels to make him dinner and “he beat her heavily”(29) because he said she killed the tree. He had no reason to abuse his wife, he was just looking for someone to take his anger out on. Another time he “pressed the trigger” on his gun, aiming for his second wife and “there was a loud noise accompanied by the wail of his wives and children… there lay [his wife] very much shaken and frightened”(39).…

When talking about the bad things that Lennie has done, George states,”All the time he done bad things, but he never done one of ‘em mean” (Steinbeck 95). George was explaining to Candy about how Lennie did bad things all the time but, since he couldn’t control his actions, he didn’t mean any of them. In this particular case, Lennie had just killed Curley’s wife and George and Candy found out. George figured that Lennie had just wanted to touch her soft hair and yanked too hard. This showed that George did the appropriate thing by killing Lennie because Lennie had, yet again, lost control of his actions and hurt yet another person.…

It was mostly in his head. there were no threats, no vows of revenge, just a silent tension between them that made Jensen take special precautions (page 63).” The war ate up people and spit them right back out, leaving them damaged both physically and mentally, some even to the point where they destroyed themselves physically just to get away from the war. Dave Jensen and Lee Strunk made a pact to kill one another if the other ends up in a wheelchair, though Strunk ended up having his right leg blown off and dying anyway, but instead succumbing to the wound rather than Jenson killing him like he promised.
