According to Webster’s Dictionary, the definition of the word devotion is “the fact or state of being ardently (passionately) dedicated and loyal”. Also, according to Webster’s Dictionary, the definition of the word imagination is “the act or power of forming a mental image of something not present to the senses or never before wholly (fully) perceived in reality”. The themes of devotion and imagination are both interpreted into the film “Finding Neverland”. Devotion and imagination describes the major events that happened throughout the film and with the main characters and characterize what the audience has discovered while viewing the film. The theme of devotion can be seen throughout the entire film. The main character, J.M. Barrie was entirely dedicated to the boys, Peter, Jack, George, and Michael and to their mother, Sylvia. From when he first met the boys in the park until the end of the movie when their mother died, J.M. Barrie demonstrated his devotion towards the boys. For example, J.M. Barrie was so devoted to Sylvia and her sons that he did not pay any attention to his own wife, Mary, which caused her to ultimately leave. Another example would be that Barrie created an entire …show more content…
For example, in the beginning of the film when Barrie first met the boys in the park, he helped them to assemble their imagination by having them to think of his dog as a bear. Peter did not have a big imagination like his brothers did at the beginning, but then he soon began to catch on. Another example is when J.M. Barrie went to visit the boys and Sylvia at their home, he had the boys to imagine that they were cowboys while him and Peter imagined that they were Indians. As a matter of fact, the entire play of Peter Pan was based on the imagination. The boys being able to fly and going to a land where no one grows old and stays the same age forever, is a land of the

Peter and the Starcatcher is an exhilarating and adventurous story that tells the tale of the well known free-spirited boy, Peter Pan’s backstory. Peter and the Starcatcher is based on the 2004 novel written by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, which was fashioned into a play by Rick Elice. I had an exceptional experience of seeing the play on March 29, at 9:30, adapted by director, Kerry Bishop on the A.B Lucas Secondary School stage. This play certainly catches the whimsical and wonderful essence of the boy who never grew up and how he came to be. Starring Aidan Peters as Peter, Makayla Ashenden as Molly Astor, Michael Jenkinson as Black Stache and the entire A.B Lucas cast put together a humorous and heartwarming performance, leaving me on…

Guy Montag is very mysterious. The first words in the novel Farenhight 451 come from him and it reads as follows “It was a pleasure to burn”. At the beginning of the novel Montag seems like someone who enjoys his job very much, but as the novel progresses Montag seems to not love his job so much. Its not because of the burning part its because he is the only one that realizes what is happening to the dystopian society that he lives in. He realizes after burning all of these books he is burning the knowledge of the world.…

I saw the play Peter and the Starcatcher, written by Rick Elice, on Tuesday, November 15, 2016. Elice’s comedic play acts as the prequel to J.M. Barrie’s play Peter and Wendy since it gives backstory to the character Peter Pan. Peter and the Starcatcher features the protagonist Peter Pan, originally a nameless orphan, who meets the brave Molly Aster while on a ship. The kids have a run in with Captain Black Stache’s band of pirates as they try to recover a chest filled with the Queen’s treasure. I will go into more detail analyzing the plot, characters, and production of Elice’s play.…

In J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan and Arthur Ransome’s Swallows and Amazons, the location becomes a vital aspect to the storyline. The use of islands such as Neverland and Wild Cat Island creates a symbolic metaphor for a barrier between the protagonists and mainland society. Nevertheless, the texts maintain unique approaches to display developments amongst their characters. Through the comparison of the Darlings and the Walkers’ adventures on the islands begins through the representation, accessibility and occupation, reinforced class hierarchy, and gender specific experiences on the islands, a psychological metamorphosis extends from the physical separation. Ultimately, islands act as barriers between the protagonists and mainland society in which psychological transformations can occur.…

The novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck has one main reason why the book's theme is loyalty. This novel takes place in the Great Depression when life was definitely not the same as it is now. The friendship and trust between Lennie and George clearly represents the theme of loyalty in this novel. The friendship between Lennie and George is very strong, because of Lennie's little mind problems, George has to be there whenever and wherever Lennie needs help, because if not, things might get a little out of hand. And that is also a very big part of loyalty in this book.…

In The Veldt, Ray Bradbury shows readers that the way a person is raised affects their view of the world and the choices that they make in it. The dramatic, ominous imagery in Bradbury’s writing draw the reader into the children’s disturbing African world. This veldtland is a main element in the theme and is what allows readers to come to the conclusion of what the main theme is. One piece of evidence that this theme is the most prominent is revealed when readers learn that the parents have let the house take care of their children instead of doing it themselves. In doing this, the Hadley family is separated because the children grow attached to the house and not their parents because it is the house that has loved, cared about, and provided…

Imagination allows an individual to experience nature and explore places of the world in a different way compared to sitting in a car or traveling in an airplane. From my personal experience I can help support Solnit’s opinion and say that it’s accurate. I remember when I was fifteen years, my family and I drove to San Francisco for 8 hours. During the car ride I recall myself being bored and falling asleep most of the road trip. When it came to my dad driving across the Golden Gate Bridge I was excited to finally see it.…

Feminist and pioneer social worker Jane Addams once said, “Civilization is a method of living, an attitude of equal respect for all men.” Equal respect is one of the main ideas of civilization, while the idea for savagery would be the hunters and the hunted, which can lead to death. This idea is presented superbly in Lord of the Flies. William Golding’s view on civilization within this book is positive, because civilization kept the boys alive, and without it, chaos surrounds the boys.…
