Emotionally Intelligent Leadership Summary

The chapters I chose are chapter fourteen Coaching Others from Emotionally Intelligent Leadership by Marcy Levy Shankman, Scott J. Allen and Paige Haber-Curran. I also looked at chapter seven When to Raise it and chapter seven Ground Your Identity from Difficult Conversations by Douglas Stone, Bruce Patton, and Shelia Heen. I chose the first reading because I feel that my strengths lay with coaching others. I chose the second readings because I feel that the area that I need to work on is having difficult conversations especially deciding what should be discussed and what shouldn’t be. For the first reading I looked at chapter fourteen Coaching Others in the book Emotionally Intelligent Leadership. This chapter looks at skills needed to be an effective coach. One, decide what my hot buttons are. I found over the course of the year that I value honesty. I found that I don’t care if people miss things or if they are late if they are honest about the reason they are late, or they just own up to what they did. That is what most people want anyway. The next step is to sit down and explain to someone my prospective that could be on anything. This allows me to practice giving my thoughts in a way that is third person perspective. The last thing that I feel I can do is commit to have a difficult conversation. I am prepared to have that conversation the next time I see my friend Hailey. She has been ignoring my messages and skipping class and when she finally gets back to me she makes up a huge lie about her mom being in the hospital and then locking her keys in her car. I know that she wasn’t in the hospital and someone can only lock their keys in their car so many times. I need to sit down and talk about why honesty is important to me and how the lies have affected out
