The Emotional Intelligence assessment was more pretty easy to finish. I was expecting to be lengthy and time consuming. The process was not painful to go through, and it similar to a survey than an assessment. I really didn’t learn anything new about myself with this assessment. I have pretty good idea where I am at with emotional intelligence, but I am surprised about the score that I received from the assessment. I could definitely need to improve on my social competence. I already know that my social skill will be low before the assessment, but I am disappointed to see how low I score on my social competence. My lowest core was social awareness of 54, while my relationship management is little bit higher with 59. The assessment revealed what aspects of social competence brings my score down most. The first one is missing out on people’s non-verbal cues. The appraisal suggested to practice the art of listening. I need to focus on people tone, speed, and volume of the voice instead of paying attention to what are they saying. The second one is failing to spot the mood in the room. In order to catch the mood of the room, the book suggests that I could bring someone who can show me the rope when it comes to tapping into my gut instincts and feel the room. I have the ability to be aware of my own emotions to stay flexible and positively direct my behavior. This strength could help me in the workplace mostly by avoid sending mix signals to people due to my mood swings. If I could identify what I am feeling, I can act according to those emotions and avoid actions that I will regret. I believe that my emotions could affect someone else emotion. If I am stress and fail to realize it, I can easily take it out on the next person I see. If I recognize that I am stress, I could take a walk to calm down before going in to
