This led me to evidenced Samsara’s poor academic performance as well as our lack of solidity as a team. Furthermore, as someone who dreams to achieve a high level of education, I regard academic performance as serious matter. Thus, after enduring Samsara’s effortless behavior as a group member so long, this event triggered the emotional hijacking I experienced that on that occasion. This affected my interaction with Samsara because it denoted my lack of emotional intelligence at handling the situation, as well as my irrefutable need of self- work when it comes to directing my concerns to others, in a manner that reflects tact, discretion, and communication competence. In retrospect, I think that the emotional hijacking I experienced in such occasion could have been avoided or lessened if I would have waited for Samsara outside the classroom to discuss the state of affairs prior to entering the room. Another approach I could have adopted in this case, was to invite Samsara to join me outside the classroom to examine the situation

The project provides “adult role models who volunteer to work with students to improve their grades, attendance and behaviors” (Wicomico County Public Schools). The coordinator Mark Thompson was more than glad to become our mentor to help our group make an impact on his organization. In high school, we were constantly being told that we could not work in groups because we would get too loud. In university group work was encouraged so that our professors wouldn't have to do as much marking. During my observations at my CSL there was a lot of group work. Comparing when the students were working on group work to their individual work, the results were polar opposites. The tasks for students was to write down what they knew about 5 sided figures.…

While I was working in my group I learned a lot about talking with other groups. One major thing that learned was that compromises were and still are very important in almost everything that we do. I learned that working in a group with a big project like that is very important so that we could all have different inputs and ideas to go off of. When each group member gives an input it will be better that if only one person thinks about it. Than it may not have all of the information needed.…

On October 13, 2016, I attended the Team Communication Workshop Part II: Handling Difficult People and Situations, presented by Dr. Joanna Wolfe from the Global Communication Center. It was a workshop about how to handle working on a group project with people who might be difficult to work with and how to deal with uncomfortable situations in a professional manner. Dr. Wolfe noted in the beginning that based on the research that she and other GCC staff have conducted, women and minorities in general tend to face problems especially in scenarios where another group member dominates the other group members and the group project in general. The workshop was interactive, so we were presented with different scenarios that we may face in our careers and asked to rate the different kinds of reactions based on how effective we…

Through this process we focused on what we wanted to represent as a team working together in the best interest of our students. In the end we developed a vision that is now a foundation for our success, because everyone will benefit from our accomplishments. If we are able to effectively collaborate, which is important to our vision, then we will be able to create challenging lessons for our students and make certain that we are meeting the need of all students and inspiring them for future experiences. During the vision creating process, I also gained some perspective of things I need to develop for my future as a leader. Knowing that my personality is led by my feelings, there were moments when I did take things a little too personal.…

Reflection Paper II Throughout my college experience here in the Carroll School of Management, group work and the ability to work well with others has been emphasized greatly. This makes sense, because in a professional environment, the ability to communicate, listen and contribute within a group leads to success and the achievement of goals. However, none have gone on as long as this project, making it a more realistic example of working on a team. Junior year of college is definitely a crazy time, as we are forced to balance heavy workloads with extracurriculars and recruiting.…

Another lesson learnt from our Coniston trip was the importance of having a balanced mixture of roles within a team. Belbin (1981) defined team role as ‘a tendency to behave, contribute and interrelate with others in a particular way’. At the start of our trip we sat down as a group and completed the Belbin Report to see which team role we each were according to the 9 team roles identified by Belbin (1981). Each team role is associated with typical behavioural and interpersonal strengths. This was important as it improved our knowledge of ourselves and other members of my group.…
