A Mother’s Unconditional Love

That old saying, “No one loves you like your mother”, rings true now that I am older and have finally came to the realization that it could not be more true. She demonstrates her affection through hugs and kisses, she continuously asks how my day went, and treats me to lunch as a reward of my hard work. The amount of joy my mom shows for me is overwhelming because of the ways she expresses it. In addition to being a joyous person she is both physically and emotionally strong after starting her life of hardships.

Someday I want to be as strong as my mom is. Her first 13 years of life was spent in the Philippines in a small rundown town called Bicol. Her home life consisted of no electricity and no running water.

Her senior year of high school started. Already being 18 years old she was the last daughter to graduate so her parents decided to move to Florida. With nowhere else to go she decided to stay there and live with her older sister in her apartment. After graduation she started her first job at McDonald’s for a year which she viewed as a decent job. She then went to Trident Technical College, a community college in Charleston for a semester and a half. About 21 years old she quit college and moved to San Diego with her other sister, Tess, and her husband. She found a job and worked as a secretary publishing airplane magazines for a year which she enjoyed. Then she met my dad at a club and moved to Washington where he got stationed. Eight years later they had me.

Before I was born my mom was preparing for every little thing yet to come. She had my dad, grandma, and aunt by her side to help. After a few months we lived in Hawaii until I was four. My dad used to tell me how proud my mom was of me. She was proud of this one moment when I was only three years old, because when she used to push me in the stroller through town, everyone walking by would compliment how beautiful I was. She just showered me with her joyous treatment of

Even though she’s a small person she is always full of energy. She taught me to always be kind, caring, and honest and never let anyone push me around. She has helped me grow physically and intellectually. When my friends would come over she would always have a meal ready for all of us, or even when my dad comes home from work. She’s the kind of mom who likes to cook, which I love. She is also the type of mom to give out hugs to all of my friends like she hasn 't seen them in forever.

One of my favorite quality time hang outs to do with her is to go out for lunch and look for good deals in the mall. While we 're out she would always wants to have one of those mother daughter talks, which I hate. So I just let her talk and I just agree but barely pay attention at the same time. Now that I’m older and I have a sense of what the world is like but she still gives me tips. I have a feeling no matter how old I get she will always remind me to watch out for strangers, look for sales and to always look both ways before crossing the

The texts The End of Remembering by Joshua Foer and “The Ordinary Devoted Mother” by Alison Bechdel, while are stylistically very different, addresses the same themes of the memory and one’s self-identity. Foer, while not as cold or detached as a scientific paper, uses a more formal and traditional tone when compared to Bechdel who approaches these themes through the lens of a graphic novel. The result of this gives two very distinct perspective on how memories affect one’s self identity. Foer’s theoretical framework of how memory functions and Bechdel’s more anecdotal approach of the effects of her personal memories on her life, provides two very distinctive perspectives on how the prioritization of memories are connected with the creation…
