Being a woman of mixed background, I think that it is important to not only inform my children of the stereotypes that are present in the world but also shed light to the fact that they are not reliable ways to evaluate others. In chapter 6 of the book, it was discussed that in late childhood, the development of one's own identity leads to an in-group and out-group mentality (Parke, Ross D., & Alison Clarke-Stewart, 2014). I would want to put extra focus on my own children on matters of race and ethnicity biases and stereotypes. While we were given multiple real-world statistical analysis in class, there were some that were not provided for which I would like to know the percentage or the significance of. One of such topics is in reference to the religious role on the female and male perceptions during development, yet another would be to dive more into the long-term effects that the different peer acceptances have such as the long-term effects of remaining in a particular group over one's life.
