According to Getting Away With Murder: The True Story of the Emmett Till Case, “News of the murder and the trial that followed it outraged Black and sympathetic white Americans across the nation, and reaction to the famous murder case played an important role as a catalyst for the civil rights movement.” Emmett Till’s story was so monumental to history that it is still widely known today. His murder, and the other events that followed it, such as Rosa Parks’ story, helped start the civil rights movement. Till had no idea that his death would influence millions of people to stand up against Southern segregation. He had a huge impact on history. Another example of someone who affected history is Jackie Robinson. Jackie Robinson went down in history for being one of the first African Americans to play in Major League Baseball. According to a Holt McDougal Literature, “Robinson signed up in a history-making huddle with Hector Racine and Lieut.” (847) Beyonce Knowles-Carter said, “When I leave this world, I’ll leave no regrets. Leave something to remember so they won’t forget I was here.”. Some believe that life’s meaning is found in the legacy one leaves behind and by the changes and impacts one …show more content…
Henry Miller once said, “Life has to be given a meaning because of the obvious fact that it has no meaning.” The entire idea of life having a meaning is false, and that one day everyone will have to accept the fact that there is no specific meaning, and that there is no big reason for us being here. Stephen Hawking stated, “I regard the brain as a computer which will stop working when its components fail. There is no heaven or afterlife for broken down computers; that is a fairy story for people afraid of the dark.” Hawking, like many others, believed that death is the end. There are many theories that there is absolutely no meaning to life, and no purpose for people being alive. Joseph Campbell said, “Life has no meaning. Each of us has meaning and we bring it to life. A Response to Question 1, Section 1: The Meaning of Life: Wolf vs. Taylor Both Richard Taylor and Susan Wolf understand the difficulty of answering the question, “What is the meaning of life?” Taylor begins his “The Meaning of Life” by saying that we do not even understand what the question means to then answer it, and Wolf claims in her own “The Meanings of Lives” that the question is embarrassing to ask because, as Taylor asserts, we really do not understand what is being asked here. Taylor proposes, then, the best way to answer this is to ask what makes for a meaningless life, and perhaps from this comparison, we can find some answers to the original question. Wolf appreciates Taylor’s approach as she also adopts his method, and even though…

“I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet” by Jack London. He establishes the meaning of how he would much rather live an adventurous fun life than a average dull meaningless one. I agree with this quote, I believe to live your long life out, you need to take risks and make choices you are not 100% sure on. For example, the saying YOLO, “you only live once”, is expressing how you have one life and the goal is to live it to the fullest, experiencing thrill, love, accomplishment, etc. Although some may feel that it is a cover up to be reckless and unreliable, the truth is that it is a statement that means to spend your life doing what you love.…

The meaning of life is a highly controversial topic among humans; one that has been debated for centuries. A particular philosopher, Thomas Nagel, has a certain idea about what the meaning of life. However, I do not agree with his position. Essentially, he believed that life has no meaning and that there is no rationale that could be given to it in order to make it meaningful. Nevertheless, even if everything we do in life will be forgotten, that does not mean humans cannot find meaning in their everyday life.…

Existentialism may answer questions about the meaning of our world by claiming that the world is simply a mess of random chance that happens to be what it is now, and say that “it is what it is,” matching their view of life. However, this topic is not often explored by existentialists, and opinions of the world may vary between them. This is because Existentialism is mostly centred around existence and life, rather than the world itself. If the core of existentialism is that people must choose the meaning of their own life, how can it then answer the question of the meaning of the world without using a separate…

There is no true meaning to life. Life has no meaning. Us, as people, bring meaning to life - and sometimes, other people help inspire that meaning for us. I’m not sure who said it, I just know that my grandfather relayed this quote back to me about a year and a half ago, a month or two before he passed: “The meaning of life is just to live, do what you love, and live for yourself. If you can help others along the way, well, consider yourself lucky.…
