Abbè Sieyès aka Emmanuel Joseph Sieyès, was born May 3, 1748 in France. At the beginning time of the Revolution, Sieyès was an abbè for the church. Even though he believe more into the science aspect of life. The financial crisis in France forced the King to assemble the Estates General, so then the minister Necker asked for opinions on how the Estate General should be established. And this is when Abbè Sieyès created and presented the pamphlet, "What Is the Third Estate?” (Sieyès 1789) to the Estates-General in 1789. He was so important to The Third Estate and the people of France that he was named deputy from the Third Estate to the States-General. Sieyès advocated the abandonment of the traditional functioning of the three Estates as separate blocs and the formation of a single chamber National Assembly. The Third Estate accounted for a majority of the population in France but they were overruled and overpowered by the clergy and the nobility. Which were benefitting from all of this. The clergy and the nobility, which made up the First and Second Estate weren’t paying any taxes and continuously out voted the Third Estate. Sieyès became the voice for the Third Estate. The First Estate was made up of clergy, the Second Estate was made up of the nobility and the Third Estate was the Bourgeoisie, the Sans Culottes, and the peasants. Sieyès pamphlet substantially became the manifesto of the French Revolution. This pamphlet influenced the Third Estate to break off from the Estates-General.
