The following statement by Emma E. Vogel, a reconstruction aide instructor and developer of the first therapy program holds meaning to me. "The goal has always been and continues to be the improvement of patient care, with outstanding patient-physical therapist relationships. The motto was: Return the patient to duty or to his rightful place in society in the shortest time by the best means possible.” As a physical therapist, I plan to aid individuals in recovery and assist them in resuming normal activities. To fulfill Vogel’s statement, it is vital that individuals live a full and productive life, spend time with family and friends, and enjoy each day. I will be working with patients who suffer from conditions affecting physical mobility and I want to provide them with therapeutic instructions, time and tender care. …show more content…
I spent time in therapy, as well as with an athletic trainer. Due to my own injuries and my time spent in treatment, I developed an interest for physical therapy and the human body. The individuals who were a part of my physiotherapy were competent, confident, sociable, kind, patient and possessed insightful people skills. As a future physical therapist I hope patients observe these same skill sets in myself. An optimal therapeutic relationship should provide a fun and productive atmosphere. I plan to do this by explaining to each patient why an exercise or skill is necessary and the importance in pushing themselves a little harder. By providing patients with the correct tools and guidance, I will be able to provide them with a positive experience. The science and rational of the therapy protocol will encourage patient

PT 826 Reading Assignment The information given in the article by Lau, Chiu, & Lam (2010) about using thoracic manipulation for the treatment of neck pain was very new to me. There were several instances in the past where I treated patients with neck pain by giving mobilizations techniques and modalities in and around cervical area. This article was a convincing one which helped me to understand the concept of biomechanical and etiological relationship between cervical and thoracic structures and how this knowledge can be capitalized by effectively using thoracic mobilization in patients suffering from chronic mechanical neck pain.…

These individuals must spend extra time, and resources in order to reach distant rehabilitation centers. Many rehabilitation protocols consist of repeated therapy sessions.…

My knees shook and my hands twisted as I looked around the clean, polished, well-lit room of MidAtlantic Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation. The light gray rafters and fans of the high ceiling would become very familiar to me as I executed the repetitive exercises, mainly on my back. While the room was undecorated and rather blank, it felt bright and welcoming due to the energetic, optimistic attitude of the occupants. Everyone there, therapist or patient, was working towards a goal, making the environment that much more positive and…

By getting involved in preceptorships in different clinical settings this semester, it has enhanced our education and allowed us to see how influential physical therapy can be for patients and their families. In order to supplement the education received in class and literature available, we had the opportunity to observe an outpatient physical therapy clinic at Momentum Physical Therapy. At this specific location, care is given from five physical therapists, which provided us the unique opportunity to walk around and observe different treatment styles. The primary goal of patient care at Momentum is to restore muscle and joint function along with increase mobility. Our first patient was a middle-aged woman with complaints of chronic…

I started out as an intern to the physical therapist aide, which included preparing equipment for patients with special needs or disabilities and perform other duties, such as maintenance of ice/hot packs and the equipment required for treatments. After about a month, the head physical therapist asked me to transition to a physical therapist aide. I was excited about the transition, because it is my passion to assist patients. During each shift, I spent six hours assisting approximately 15 patients in their treatments and answering any questions related to their treatments. As an intern, I initially took the initiative to talk to patients and sympathized with their condition.…

My personal beliefs are that you are coming to therapy because you want to get better or maintain the function that you are at risk of losing. I hope that everyone that is coming to clinic wants to come and will be willing to participate in the clinic. I believe there is always something more a person can do, by doing an extra rep or doing a work out a second time a day. Over a period of time doing a bit extra every day will eventually heal you and possibly prevent some people from returning to physical therapy. This belief of doing a bit extra every day may have a conflict with some because they get busy, do not want to do it, or forget how to complete the task.…
