And there was also the fact that I am white, and you know, this is predominantly black music, you know.” (Eminem, October 7, 2010) He is an artist who achieved unbelievable success in the music industry by just being himself, taking the life he was given and living day by day focused on telling the world his feelings and his story through his music. Over the last 20 years, Eminem has inspired many artists as well as the music industry itself and remains a major influence today. Against almost insurmountable odds, Eminem has become an iconic figure in the cultural, racial, and artistic development of hip hop music Born October 17, 1972 as Marshall Bruce Mathers, III, in St Joseph, Missouri, he was the only child of Marshall Bruce Mathers, Jr. and Deborah Rae Nelson. Deborah nearly died during the 73hour labor, at only 17 years of age. They were both young musicians, making ends meet by playing in a band called Daddy Warbucks at Ramada Inns around the Dakotas and in Montana.
