Emily Grierson's Lesson Before Dying

As a youth, Emily Grierson was kept from most social contact and all dating by her father. When later dies, she declines to recognize his passing for three days. When the people in her town bury her dad, Emily is further segregated by a secretive sickness, potentially a mental breakdown.
