There is only one poet who could affect the media, art, movies, books and music to the benefit of females everywhere. Who could have done this wondrous deed? The one and only Emily Dickinson! Females have been treated differently from men; as if we are not equal from the very beginning. Someone has to break the silence, and address these issues because we are all human and are equal. Emily Dickinson had done exactly that, she had expressed all those feelings that females had kept locked up for so many years. Expressing feminist ideas is what in particular inspired many people and what had influenced them to make art, literature, movies and music.

During the period of time she lived, women were only supposed to write prose and poems. Emily didn’t like the idea of prose compared to poems, this was because in poetry one can express themselves more. Also prose were also a more male-dominated subject and females at that time were supposed to be more passive and quiet. As far as stereotypical male-domination of many subjects, she challenges gender roles in many cases. In many other cases, she has addressed masculinity in her poems such as; my life had stood--a loaded gun. This poem discusses how the male is the figure of authority; the master. This male, deprives the female of sensitivity a sacrifice the idea of compassion in her poem.
“The dinner party” created by Judy Chicago in 1979, is a monumental art piece used to honor the history of women in Western Civilization; and also a feminist art piece. The art piece is a triangular shaped table which is split into 39 place settings which are used to show respect to goddesses, historical figures or an important woman in time, while the tiles of the floor had the names of 999 other important women. One assumption made was about how women will sooner or later give up on trying to find true love, this is shown to be false by the main character Ada. Ada shows that she can essentially have it all. Through arranged marriage, being locked away and all of the difficulties life brings Ada uses one love, and her piano to express herself. Through her piano, she will overcome it all. This film proves that women, too, can have social rights and is a feminist film.
Much like the aspect of both “The Piano” and Emily Dickinson showing feminist aspects, Emily has also shown herself to have a deep interest in music; particularly the piano. We have found physical proof of her interest in music, due to Emily keeping her own music binders which had 35-45 pieces of music. Overall, many people looked to Emily Dickinson as an influence on their work, everyday lives and activities.
