Emiliano Zapata was born in 1879 in Mexico and grew up as the son of a mestizo peasant. Growing up under the struggles of a local peasant farmer he began to fight for the rights of the villagers with little acts of rebellion against the landowners. From then on Zapata continued to faithfully represent the ideals and ambitions of the indigenous Mexican crowds. As depicted in the picture on page 704, of Traditions & Encounters: A Global Perspective on The Past, Zapata was a brave and courageous man just by his stance and that he was always ready to fight for the rights of him and his people being heavily armed.
