Emergency Site Descriptive Writing

Decent Essays
I entered the worksite and met with David Lucas. The site was clean, well lit and properly ventilated. Emergency exits were located in the back of the building. It is a small office, so it does not have much windows or exits. The facility overall was clean and had easily accessible bathrooms. One fire extinguisher was placed next to the receptionist desk. I reminded the supervisor that the participant can work up to 20 hours if they choose during their christmas break. This sites in accordance with DYCD's rules and regulations.

This journal entry has provided me a reason to record what I am thinking and I'm going to take full advantage of that. I don't want this to come off as unprofessional. I also don't want to give you the impression that I am mentally unstable, but am I actually alive? I've thought of this before, in passing, but I've never truly come to terms with any conclusion I've met. This could be a textbook case of an existential crisis, but "crisis" makes it seem like this has consumed my life or worried me in the least.…

There is a certain level of ambiguity that comes with working for a 911 emergency medical service. For as well as I know my protocols, my partner and my equipment, EMS is based on uncertainty. Uncertainty, not just for the individual requesting assistance, but for the crew as well. You see, for every dispatch I receive, I can be sure of only two things: I am going to a location, and there may or may not be a patient there. Fifteen of us stayed in the craft shack until 3am the night before because the campers were officially gone and we knew that the next morning was our last. Being an emergency dispatcher is not an easy task. People mistake the job of an emergency dispatcher to be easy since their primary responsibility is to answer phone calls. However, it is forgotten that these calls pertain to traumatic situations in which the dispatcher must remain calm for the sake of the caller. Despite the training dispatchers receive to remain calm, collected, and professional during all aspects of any call, they are not truly prepared to handle the stress that accompanies this service job. Stress overcomes a dispatcher even before they answer a phone call.…
