Describe the setting: Legacy Salmon Creek Emergency Department (ED) check-in is on the first floor for both pediatric and adults. Once patients are checked in and then the patient is taken to the pediatric department is on the second floor where triage and emergency care occurs. The second floor is set up like an inpatient floor, where each patient gets their own room, and computer and vital machines are all in the room. The Arapahoe County Sheriffs Department provides primary law enforcement and victims assistance services for the towns located along the I-70 corridor in unincorporated Arapahoe County as well as the cities of Cherry Hills Village, Cherry Creek State Park and the Bow Mar/ Columbine Valley. Observations and Reflections The nurse leader I worked with that I will described was a manager who was brought into our staffing office to insure our in-house agency was correctly maintaining our staff records and to teach the staff the correct way to do this. DS was a BSN trained nurse with 20 years of nursing experience with the majority of this time in the ER as staff nurse. The growth from the 1970s – 1980s was slow and steady in comparative to the concept “doc in a box” that one could see without appointment gained popularity. One of the main reasons why hospital visits have increased since Obamacare is there is a big difference in ratio between patients and physicians are with patients being the highest number. Tom Howell, a journalist for the Washington Times, explained it best by saying, “The biggest cause is lack of primary care doctors to treat the increased number of patients with health care coverage so the patients are turning to the emergency room instead – exactly what wasn’t supposed to happen” (Howell). During my attendance to the Seattle Children’s Hospital Nursing Camp, I job shadowed multiple Registered Nurses in the Cancer Care Unit, Medical Floor, Operating Room, and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. In each department, I was able to observe the daily tasks of a nurse and how they interact with different patients. Not only did I job shadow nurses, but I also learned how to different procedures, such as: how to replace a trachea device, take blood pressures, insert feeding tubes, and how to inject vitamins and foods into feeding tubes. On February 9, 2018 I interviewed Mr. Appler at the Panera Restaurant in Washington, Missouri and stated the following: On November 16, 2016 he had climbed a wooden ladder to close the attic access in his garage and the ladder broke. He fell approximately 8 to 10 feet onto the concrete floor where he was found by his wife. Mr. Appler does not know how long he was on the floor or if he lost consciousness. The Owensville EMS voiced some concerns about head and neck injuries during his transport to Mercy Hospital in Washington, Missouri.
