There are three types of surgical abortion procedures and two types of emergency medical contraception that can be used to abort a fetus. The types of surgical abortion procedures are Aspiration, Dilation/Evacuation, and Dilation/Extraction; the emergency medical contraception can be referenced as an over the counter pill, prescribed pill or T-shaped instrument. However, the method is chosen by the woman and what trimester of pregnancy is the woman in. It is recommended before any surgical abortion procedure is performed that the woman obtain a sonogram.
