In order to explain the importance of communication during all phases of emergency management, one must first know the four phases of emergency management. These phases are mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery (Haddow & Haddow, 2014). Obviously some of these phases occur before a potential disaster or emergency and some apply only after a disaster or emergency occurs. With that being said, communications are extremely important through all phases. Furthermore, timely and accurate information is crucial.
