Emerald Ash Borer in Wisconsin Veronica Williams, Andy Lundin, Balin Magee, Zach Smola Ash trees are a very common and beautiful tree in Wisconsin, and they are used by many people for their lumber. There is a nuisance attacking and destroying the ash tree, and that is the infestation of the invasive Emerald Ash Borer, or EAB. The adult beetles do little harm to the tree by just eating their foliage, but their larvae burrow beneath the bark of the tree and restrict the tree’s ability to transport nutrients and water. The process takes anywhere from 1-5 years and the infestation is usually widespread in an area.…
The Strength of the Yucca-Yucca Moth Interaction: Review of Past Scientific Studies Abstract The relationship between Yucca moths from Tegeticula, Parategeticula and Prodoxous with the Yucca plant (Agavaceae) has been observed over centuries. The strength of their interaction has created contradictory theories. Whether the relationship is obligate or falcultative is one of the ideas providing differing views. The effects of external influences have also been studied by many.…
A). The Upland region of Prospect Park had a greater dead component of trees as determined by a density score of 120 individuals and a basal area of 0.985882. The density of dead trees at the Upland region was almost 4 times greater than the Floodplain region and basal areas were roughly 52% greater in the Upland region compared to the Floodplain. There are many reasons for why this is the case, including disease outbreak or multiple years of poor conditions. For example, the upland region may have experienced a disease outbreak, particularly in the Green ash trees, due to do infestations of root rot, pests, or fungus.…
An important note about drop for older boys playing baseball: The natural drop of wood is -3. Therefore a 33 inch wood bat will weigh 30 oz. Although colleges and high schools don’t require their baseball players to use wood bats, they do require that players use a bat that has the same drop as a wood bat or -3. You should keep this in mind if you are choosing a bat for high school or college player. You will find our high school and college bats under the “Adult” category for those players preferring aluminum or composite bats and under the “Wood” category for those that like the feel of…
While analyzing The Joy Luck Club and researching the question: How and why does Amy Tan use storytelling to portray thematic elements in her book,The Joy Luck Club? It has become clear that this novel known as the story within stories uses storytelling to portray the themes of this work, and by doing so the author is able to appeal to the audience's pathos meaning their emotion and value. This appeal of emotion is shown in almost every story as the story is a first person dive into the past of the character which contained diction and stylistic devices that riled up emotions. Also another effect of storytelling is how it helps the readers understand the situation of the characters therefore leading to a deeper understanding of the themes…
I choose the article “Hidden Epidemic: Tapeworms Living Inside People’s Brains” by Carl Zimmer. I picked this particular article because I thought it was interesting to learn about the effects tapeworms can have on a person’s brain and the things tapeworms can cause that people do not usually hear about. This relates to the class because we talked about tapeworms and their effects on humans. We also talked about how people get them and how long they can stay in the body.…

I chose to investigate the environmental impact of gypsy moths because I have personally had experience cleaning up after these pests in northern Ohio and I know that they are becoming an issue in other parts of Ohio as well. I was able to witness some of the damage they have done while removing defoliated trees in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Gypsy moths are a non-native, invasive species that, over the past decade, have been coming into the state from Pennsylvania and Michigan. The moth undergoes a complete metamorphosis and while a caterpillar it has the ability to feed on over three hundred species of trees and shrubs and cause serious damage and defoliation. The moth’s preference for oak, make the oak tree particularly at risk because the caterpillars favor it and a tree can typically only withstand two years of defoliation before the damage is permanent or results in the death of the tree.…

Introduction Oviposition is described as one of the final steps in reproduction in insects. It includes the deposition of mature eggs onto an object that is outside the body of the female insect (Saunders 2003). Where and how the organism oviposits depends on the behavioral aspects of different species. Another factor that can influence the oviposition of eggs involves the release of chemicals. The Diving Beetle chooses plants that have readily available food for their newly hatched young.…

It is widely believed that human beings cannot escape death. Virginia Woolf’s narration in the story “The Death of the Moth” displays the battle between life and death, which is never won. The writer employs rhetorical devices such as fragmentation and tone, as well as metaphors to deliver his message and advance the feeling of pity in the reader. In addition, Woolf attentively uses metaphors and other literary devices in a manner that agrees with the shifting of the tone all through the narration, which assert the ideology that victory in the battle of death is impossible. The author intends to show that the moth’s actions are reflective of human life and that nature is powerful.…
