Brown University, ivy league research institution, addressed the advantages of embryonic stem cells vs. adult stem cells by purely claiming that embryonic stem cells cover “a wider variety of applications than do adult stem cells.” Embryonic stem cells can form into any given cell in the human body. There needs to be more research regarding embryonic stem cells but it is theorized that these cells would not be rejected the same way adult stem cells may be. Because embryonic cells are undifferentiated, it is much more likely the host will accept them compared to previously specialized adult stem cells. Rejection is a primary obstacle in stem cell research. With more research, embryonic stem cells can be much more stable and adaptive than adult stem cells. It would be absolutely traumatizing for a parent to have a child that suffered through some type of accident, became paralyzed because of a spinal cord energy, which in most cases has zero treatment options. Then to find out adult stem cells could be a possible answer to their wishes, just for the cells to not be adaptable to that specific injury or to be rejected by the child’s frail, resistant body.
