The argument of technology's benefit and/or detriment in an educational environment has been around since the day it came to be. This is a topic with a lot of controversy involved, which makes school administrators some what reluctant to fully include technology, such as iPads, as a permanent aspect of learning. Yes, technology can be a distraction in the classroom, but if the users are well educated on how to appropriately use technology, it can have a very beneficial outcome. Technology can be used to quickly find resources and help students work at their own pace and become more independent workers. Technology is not a right, but a privilege, and when abused, that privilege will be taken away. Students are constantly finding loopholes in the rules set by administrators. This is only a problem if their work ethic, responsibility, and trustworthiness are lacking. In most cases, students are excited to use technology in their work, so they become dedicated to the task assigned. What it really comes down to is that technology was originally created for students, meant to be used by students, and will inevitably be improved by students, which is why we need to educate them on proper use. Using technology in learning environments is beneficial to students because it will behoove their futures, both in a sense of technological education and in their careers. Technology is constantly evolving, improving, and reinventing itself, so we cannot expect students to be actively a part of a community when they do not have the basic skills navigate today's technology. The beginning of the understanding of technology starts in the commonplace of each student; the classroom.
