Embarrassing Moments In Nursing

Have you ever had one of those embarrassing moments that you just seem to continuously replay in your head? It is almost like a stubborn earworm that refuses to depart from your brain, despite countless efforts and attempts in expelling it. I loathe those types of memories, because it feels like the universe is making mockery of me or attempting to make the whole experience appear like a caricature- blown up and out of proportion. However, I believe these type of embarrassing moments have the ability to drive us, to fuel us into our goals. I can recall sitting in my Theory of Knowledge class (this is a philosophy class that was a required course as part of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program) in the beginning of the Spring semester …show more content…
Home health care agencies provide the same care and assistance to an elderly person in a nursing home, while at the comfort of their home. Increasing awareness of these types of agencies can be a pivotal step taken to reform the way elderly people are treated. I intend to participate in this awareness movement by visiting nursing homes and advertising home health care agencies in their area. This not only alleviates the added stress that may arise from relatives who have resorted to nursing homes from the limited amount of time they possess that is needed in order to adequately for their elderly parents, grandparents, or elderly relatives. With home health agencies, the elderly can stay in their home and receive the attention and quality care that is deserved. In addition to home health agencies, another step that can be taken to reform the way senior citizens are treated, viewed, and regarded in society is instilling a collectivist mentality. The United States is what is considered as an individualistic nation, in which added importance is stressed on the self and not on others. A major reason that explains why elderly people in collectivist countries are regarded with the highest respect is because of their selfless mentality. In collectivist cultures, the focus is on the group dynamic instead of the individual. There is a tendency to focus on moral behavior and the harmony of a group or community compared to individualistic cultures. Such cultures focus on the individual's needs and looks for happiness on an individual level before looking to the group. Therefore, advocating a selfless spirit and encouraging people to adopt this mentality can yield to beneficial effects. When a person has more of a collectivist mentality, then naturally, care, attention, respect, and reverence toward the elderly will multiply abundantly since the
