As the days passed and continued with their training it was time to receive their payment. Not everyone was satisfied and surprised for the payment they have received and all of them start yelling and demanding why this happened. Sergeant Robert received a letter from the government and read it loud to everyone informing them that their payment was reduced to ten dollars because they were black slaves. Not everyone agreed or was satisfied with the choice so everyone started randomly tearing up their payment into pieces. Robert didn’t agree either, but he didn’t have no choice, but he said “ If nobody is receiving this payment neither should I.” Everyone was happy that sergeant Robert had agreed with all of them which he was attempting to create equality among each other.
As the African Americans continued with their journey and were close to the battle. General Robert talked individual with one of the black slaves letting him know that it would be an honor to him if he could carry the flag of the United States during the battle. Letting him know that he demonstrated great effort,trust,dignity,and proving that anyone can carry the flag including him which is demonstrating equality. The young man said “ I’m not going to carry the flag because it feels like war is going to continue on even though if we do win this battle or we lose you ain’t going to get
