I am writing this email on behalf of my mother Lubica Krajcikova DOB 11/11/1957. She has asked me to help her to write this email as a formal complaint because her English is not that advanced to be able to include all and accurate information in relation to this complaint.

I am going to use the first person (as she would be writing it) in order to express everything accurately what she would like to say.

" I, Lubica Krajcikova, have been admitted into the Craigavon Area Hospital A&E Department with complaining of chest pain and difficulty to breathe. Everything went well in relation to the physical treatment and diagnosis until a day ago (after being in the hospital few days) when I was told that I said that my son hit me (as reportedly

Moreover I would like to complain about the approach of the medical staff in the hospital and creating this horrible plot. My mother has been on the phone with me and expressed herself how uncomfortable she feels in the hospital and the way she is treated by the staff. When she was seen by the doctor, she was allowed to have a hot water bottle in the bed. She had it in the bed for whole day after. Next day when she was asking one of the nurses to fill the hot water bottle in, she was refused and that brought her into tear and the state of mind that she wanted to leave the hospital. Straight after the medical staff saw what was happening so they filled in her hot water bottle without any issues. My mother phoned me very distressed and crying and I was speaking to the nurse directly. The first sentence the nurse asked me was that if I am in Australia - clearly it is not enough when my mother says so. I do understand the duty to investigate but when my mother expresses herself on the matter many times and it is not accepted and possibly an error happened when the nurse at A&E was recording the diagnose and might have mistaken the information of another patient (who might have had the issue of domestic violence). End of my words. (Michal Krajcik)

Furthermore, according to Staunton and Chiarella (2013) “unsatisfactory professional conduct includes conduct that is substantially below the standard reasonably expected of a registered health care practitioner of an equivalent level of training or experience”. Based on the case study of Conyard [2015], the nurse was not able to recognise and respond to the deteriorating condition of the patient when the vital signs were in the red zone, in addition, the nurse was not able to document all the necessary assessments and plan of care. According to the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (2011), recognising and responding to deteriorating patient includes measurement and documentation of observations, escalation of care, activating rapid response system and communicating with the team about the clinical deterioration. The nurse would have recognised, responded and correctly followed the protocols by communicating with the multidisciplinary team immediately without delay.…

The carer was visibly distressed and was unable to state precisely how long ago this was. As this was an elderly patient we also asked if there was a Do Not Attempt Resuscitation (DNACPR) order in place.…

The case reveals elderly abuse by residents who endured abuse and neglect at the hands of the person charged with caring for them. It reviews the court’s findings of the petitioner’s appeal of the court’s judgment to revoke his license. This case study exemplifies types of patient and elderly abuse and patient rights violations which victims are often reluctant to report. “Patient abuse refers to the mistreatment or neglect of individuals in the health care setting” (Pozgar,2016, p. 418).…

If we were too aggressive with treating her pain, we could’ve caused hemodynamic instability which could lead to other serious complications. Nursing judgement plays an important role in many of the decisions a nurse has to make daily. It is not just about unquestioningly following doctors’ orders. Nurses have to decide when the doctors’ orders make sense and when it does not before implementing it. In this regard, I have a lot of respect for the ICU nurses I have worked with because I saw how they question the legitimacy of orders and act to correct when those orders needed…
