After reading McMinn’s chapters on prayer and scripture in Christian counseling, I can say that there is differently a need for both. McMinn shared the pros and cons about using prayer and scripture, but survey’s seems to indicate that they can be used in some counseling sessions depending on the theoretical orientation of the counselor and the diagnosis of the client (McMinn, 2011, 81). In Danielle’s session I would use McMinn thoughts on establishing a healthy sense of self. Prayer maybe the perfect illustration to get Danielle beyond her human tendency and focus on a state of self-forgetfulness.
