Elvis Presley's Major Accomplishments

From when it all started many friends and family members knew he would one day become an idol. In Tupelo, Mississippi on January 8, 1935, shortly before dawn, Gladys delivers two sons. Jesse Garon Presley was born 35 minutes before Elvis Aaron Presley only being that he was stillborn. Elvis grew up with his parents being an only child and having little money trying to support themselves. Moving from house to house, he attends Assembly of God Church with gospel music playing an important role in his life. October 3, 1945, Elvis did his first public performance singing “Old Sheep” at a youth talent contest at the Mississippi- Alabama and Dairy Show in Tupelo. He won fifth place with a prize of five dollars in fair tickets. In 1946 it was his 11th birthday and he wanted a bike, but since money was tight, his mom convinced him to take a guitar from his dad as a gift. This guitar that happened to be his first cost $12.95 that was purchased at a local music store.

He ended up releasing the song “Heartbreak Hotel.” Within only three weeks he sold over three-hundred thousand copies. On January 28, Elvis and his crew appeared on “Stage Show” for CBS making this Elvis’ first appearance on network television. In march, RCA released the album “Elvis Presley” which shortly hit number one on Billboard’s Pop album. Not only did his album hit umber one on the charts, but it happened to be his first album to ever hit one million dollars in sales. Since he made this accomplishment, he got rewarded with his first gold album reward. In August, he began to start shooting for his first movie, “Love Me Tender,” doing a small performance.
