Elvis Presley’s Death: Real or Fake? Would the family of a celebrity truly lie about a celebrity's death regardless of how many fans they have? Will they have the press in on their lies if they do? On August 16, 1977, Elvis Presley was found dead on the bathroom floor of his Graceland mansion at the age of 42. He was pronounced dead after arriving to a nearby hospital. Although all sources give information on this death, many believe that Elvis faked his death instead of actually being dead. There are few factors that could have contributed to his death, but also many that prove why he would have faked his death. Elvis Presley's deteriorating health was a main contribution to his claimed death. Not only did it ruin him, but it also led to his drug addiction. According to entertainment.howstuffworks, "His oppressive performance schedule and his reliance on drugs were connected, at least in Elvis' mind. He claimed he needed drugs to maintain his energy onstage and then drugs to sleep after his performances" (http://entertainment.howstuffworks.com/elvis-presley-biography35.htm). He became dependent on these drugs for both energy and survival. The Huffington Post states "from January 1, 1977, to August 16, 1977 — Doctor Nick wrote prescriptions for Elvis for at least 8,805 pills, tablets, vials, and injectables. Going back to January 1975, the count was 19,012" (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/garry-rodgers/elvis-presleys-death-what_1_b_9157820.html). The same doctor claimed that prescribing so many drugs would keep him from more dangerous drugs, meaning that this was an attempt to help control Presley's addiction and prevent it from worsening.
