Elvis Presley Vs Big Mama Wilson

To begin, I would like to state that I love and prefer Big Mama Thornton’s version of “Hound Dog” over Elvis Presley’s cover. The forms are not the same when comparing both of the songs. In Thornton’s version it has a slow, sultry, and soulful form and or a moderate tempo to it while with Elvis it felt like he hit the gas pedal making the song move 100 miles per hour. With Elvis making the song faster and more of a rock and roll type of song it lost the soul that the original writer had for the long. This can be seen in the lyrics as well in Thornton version, she sings, "Well they said you was high class, I can see through that." Well, Elvis changed this lyric to "Well they said you was high class, but that was just a lie.” To me when Elvis

After listing to “I get a kick out of you”, I believe the classic song was better performed by Ella Fitzgerald instead of Ethel Merman. I enjoyed the overall classic of the lyrics and see why standards are important for many singers to know and interpret differently. The vocal style of the singer was very different. Ethel’s vocal style of singing is more aggressive and it seemed somewhat rushed but had a whimsical feel. While Ella’s vocal style is more laid back because she takes her time to sing the words of the song and puts soul into it.…

Coalhouse defies the racial stereotypes of the time period during the novel, as he is well spoken and graceful. Not to mention he has taken great pride in himself, which was seen as taboo, since black Americans were still seen as a lesser people, and should know their place and act like their social status suggests. Coalhouse was faced with violence when his wealth and status in the black community was showed off with his white counterparts, for example his fancy model-T. Coalhouse’s run in with the fire department shows working class whites that weren’t wealthy, and there was a sense that if we can’t drive…
