To truly understand Elvis Presley, one must understand his early life. Presley was born on January 8, 1935, at, 4:435, in Tupelo, Mississippi (Watson 14). Elvis was the child of Vernon and Gladys Presley (Watson 12). Presley’s parents were so poor when they married in 1933 the 17-year-old Vernon had to borrow the three dollars needed to buy a marriage license (Watson 12).
