The National Aeronautics and Space Administration has so many technologies that benefit everyday life they had to create a magazine that shows the different technologies called NASA Spinoff. Many-redesigned space technologies are very beneficial to society. An example of this is NASA scientists helped develop a commercial kiln that turns plastic into useful petroleum products (Coleman et al 126). In addition, a system originally designed to transform the Martian atmosphere into rocket fuel is helping microbreweries recapture carbon dioxide (CO2) and carbonate their beer (Coleman et al 92).…

One video about their proposed Interplanetary Transport System showcases renderings of their rockets and capsules that would supposedly transport the first humans to colonize Mars. It feels more like a sci-fi action movie with dramatic, electronic music in the background, sleek artistry and text, and a climactic build up to a capsule landing on Mars. Even though everything in this video is an artistic render and SpaceX still has quite some ways to go before being ready for a mission to Mars, it has clearly captured the public’s attention, accruing over 4 million views and almost 11,000 comments on YouTube alone in just six months. A NASA video published nearly three years ago describing their proposed “Mission to Mars” has, in contrast, seen just over 160,000 views and around 200 comments. The difference?…

Billionaire Elon Musk founder and CEO of SpaceX a American aerospace company, believes we need NASA’s budget to be higher, to allow humans to become a multi-planet species and to ensure the survival of the human race. NASA will spend $3.7 billion dollars to further develop the Space Launch System, a heavy- lift rocket that will potentially carry astronauts to the Moon, Mars, and into deep space. I personally believe NASA deserves more funds, because I think eventually the world is going to have some-sort of disaster and everyone must evacuate. If NASA would be funded more by the Government, we could potentially have a colony on the Moon and Mars and other places throughout our Galaxy. I believe the U.S. military budget should stay about the same, we need to defend our country during times of threats, with countries such as North Korea.…

The United States cast safety precautions to the wind in an attempt to beat the Soviet Union in the space race. The United States succeeded, but in the process, the lives of 18 men and women were lost, both from the Soviet Union and the United States. When the Space Race ended and the Soviet Union fell, the United States became more cautious, and stopped pouring money into NASA’s budget. The innovations of the United States’s space program slowed without significant public interest and funding. Today, the innovation of the Space Race has been rejuvenated due to private companies like Space X, which has made plans to send a rocket to Mars in 2024, then fly it back.…

The modern times has seen even more NASA budget cuts and a rise in private contractors looking to space. The budget cuts may even be costing the US more than its saving them. A writer from the washington post says “Since the shuttle 's retirement, the United States has been forced to rely on Russia to take its astronauts to the station, an expensive and troubling arrangement that now costs $76 million per seat” (Davenport). There are multiple astronauts on the space station with multiple launches a year, the price of using rockets could severely add up.
