The house was crowded with my family, it was chaotic, we were all packing. Getting ready to go to Ellis Island. My family lives in a small house with eight people living in it including me, Emma Abbadessa. It is always crowded and chaotic. We are going to Ellis Island to escape poverty. My family could only afford tickets to Ellis Island . It was only a day trip so we had to pack light and lots of water. My father is already in America waiting for us, I have not seen him in 5 years. I was 11 when he left. I knew it was for good reasons but I did not want him to leave, I will get to see him in America that makes it one hundred times more exciting. In my family I am the oldest so I'm the only one that really knows my dad. After a long walk we finally arrive at the shipyard and waited in line to board the ship. We boarded with the third class also called “steerage”. There were so many people it caused a foul smell of sweat. I knew I wasn’t supposed to be up there, but also knew all the guests from first class would be out partying together, so I was safe. I was daydreaming while walking and accidentally walked into a boy that appeared to be my age. His eyes were as blue green as the ocean and his brown hair was very well kept. I could quickly see that he belonged on the first class level. I asked what his name was and he replied, “ Anthony”. He asked my name and what I was doing up on this level. I told him my name is Emma and that I was looking out at the beautiful view of the ocean that the view is much better up on the first class than down where my family is quartered.
