Elliot Wilson is a 19-year-old Caucasian female identified individual who is from northern Ohio. She is a currently enrolled sophomore majoring in marketing, and is taking a fulltime course load. Elliot was referred by an instructor she reached out to complaining of having issues attending her classes, and concerns of how this is impacting her academically. Elliot worries on a constant basis, with the nature of her worry being based on the idea that the unknown and/or uncertainly is an issue; a negative problem. The intolerance of situations that are unknown/uncertain makes said worry serve as a positive function (i.e. safety), which leads to cognitive avoidance (Robichaud, 2013). Elliot is a highly organized individual, who does well academically, however the constant state of worry is causing her performance to suffer due to missing deadlines and class due to exhaustion and fatigue. In addition, Elliot’s worry has negatively affected to social life and interactions, to the point that she is currently isolating herself, which feeds her negative self-image, and in turn makes her question her ability to complete simple tasks.
