Elliot Rodger's Theory Essay

There is a link between Adler’s theory and Elliot Rodger’s personality. Elliot developed inferiority complex which was introduced in Adler’s theory besides the birth order theory which will explain about Elliot personality as the first born child in the family.
During his life, Elliot used to think that he is not as good as other people, feeling helpless as he could not achieve what he had desired in life. Elliot character resemble the criteria suggested by Adler about people with an inferiority complex. That condition arises from his early life and continue up to his life as a college students
In his early life, Elliot Rodger wished to be as great as his father as he was impressed by his father ability to find a girlfriend not so long after his father had divorced with his mother. This was what Elliot planned to achieve when he grow older. However, as he grew up he could not accomplished the planned that he had. He blamed it to his physicality as he is shorter than the others student. He wish to grow taller than the students so that he can make more friend and play basketball together just like his friend, James had. Elliot developed an inferiority complex as he failed to develop a superior athletic ability as a way to compensate to his organic inferiority.

Rodger is the first child in the house. He use to have all the things that he wants until the presence of his younger sister which in his view had endangered his position as the center of attention in the family. Not the only one receiving all the attention that he desired at home, also failed to get any attention from the outside causes Elliot to reach the peak of his inferiority complex.
