If something does not work on an animal they do not even try it on a human (Dawn ch. 6). This means that money is wasted on the tests and animals are killed for tests that are not even considered for humans. If a test does not work on an animal, it could still potentially work on a human, but because it did not pass the rat test, humans do not even have a chance with it.
Animal testing is ineffective. Animals are not exactly like humans and their skin reacts to chemicals differently (“About” 4). A tumor that grows in a mouse is not the same as one that grows in a human (Geddes 3). Human skin works differently than animal skin (“Ask” 1). Human cells are likely to behave differently in a tiny mouse than in a human body (Dawn ch. 6). We need to test on living things because humans are so complex (“Should” 2). If the tests work on animals there is no guarantee that it will work in humans because of the differences between humans and animals (“Should” …show more content…
There are many alternatives to animal testing and excuses need to stop being made to keep animal testing in business. It may seem like it is the only option, but there are so many new ways to do the exact same test in ways which do not involve animals at all. It is cruel and inhumane to keep animals in small cages and not only physically, but also mentally harm them. Artist Leonardo Da Vinci once said, “The time will come when men such as I will look upon the murder of animals as they now look on the murder of men.” The time for animals to be treated similarly to humans can be
