Ellen can now live the American Dream due to the sacrifices Elizabeth made in her lifetime. Ellen is an American comedian, television host, actress, writer, and producer. She starred in the popular sitcom Ellen from 1994 to 1998, and has hosted her syndicated TV talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, since 2003. She is also an important figure in the LGBT community, in 1996 she came out as gay on tv which was huge because she was TV’s first openly gay star. At the time of coming out not everyone stood by her side, religious groups protested her tv show, sponsors pulled their advertising from the show, and ABC pulled her show off the air but this was only the start to a beautiful career. Now, she has her own daytime talk show, has hosted the Emmy Awards and the Oscars, has been a judge on American Idol, and is even a spokeswoman for companies like JCPenney and CoverGirl.” “Who thought we would ever have a lesbian selling makeup?” says Harlem, saying she is still amazed by how widely accepted Degeneres is by the American public.”(NPR, pg4) She has gone so far with being a woman and being gay in this time period the if she was in the 1920s. The term is still around and gives an individual hope on what to achieve in their life. The basic dream is to get a good paying job, a family, a nice car, and a house. This term has been around for so long people go for it. Everyone wants the American Dream, nobody wants less than that. It is not a myth, you can fulfil this dream through hard work. It may be an idea but it does exist because it gives one a goal to achieve. Anyone can achieve this simply by working hard towards what they want, there is nothing stopping anyone from obtaining what they want. The American Dream is a term of hope.
