Leaders come from many walks of life and have hopes, dreams, and a sense of personality. Many leaders such as the one I chose has many qualities such as a sense of self, dedication, passion and fearlessness. The leader I chose has always did what made her happy. She had the dedication and determination to find her voice as a comedian, talk show host, an activist and a role model, and it was all done with humor and kindness. She helps her followers discover that it is okay to step outside the box and try new things and discover new opportunities. She is always offering her support and encouragement. She is a true role model and leader, many people can relate to her, trust her and are inspired by her such as myself.
Ellen DeGeneres is a famous talk show host and a well-known comedian. She was born on January 26, 1958 in Metairie, Louisiana. In 1997, DeGeneres openly proclaimed herself as a lesbian on ‘The Oprah Winfery Show’ (The Famous People). Being openly lesbian was hard on Ellen. She stated “I wasn’t sure if I was going to work again, and although I was out, I was still trying to alter myself – not dressing the way I wanted to dress or wearing my hair the way I wanted to. I slowly gained the confidence to be authentic” (Cassie Carpenter). This accomplishment out weights most them because it was hard for her to deal with the situation. She wanted to be accepted and wanted to make something of herself, but a lot of negativity brought her down. What makes Ellen a leader in this situation is she pushed to be different and be her own person. She is a great advocate for the LGBT community. Ellen has made a platform to make a change in the world, even if acceptance is not given at
