“Sometimes you can't see yourself clearly until you see yourself through the eyes of others.” In the leaving a legacy unit, many social and historical movements, as well as people and their legacies, have been explored. Through kindness and fairness Ellen Degeneres has left a lasting legacy on her generation, and generations to come.

Ellen Degeneres was born January 26, 1958. Both of her parents worked, and they divorced when Ellen was a teenager. Ellen worked many jobs, such as being a waitress, selling vacuums, painting houses, and being a legal secretary. Ellen was discovered during a public speaking event, in which she was very humorous. She received several offers to be a comedian, and began performing with her mother’s support in 1981(

She started down this path by coming out as gay on on her show. She has paved the way for gay people on television and comedy, as well as in our society, by charming her crowds with her jokes, generosity, and personality. It is hard to know the exact amount, but we know that Ellen has donated over $50 million in charity(Dr. Lawrence Cooper). She is well know for asking at the end of her show “ Are we going to be nice to each other?” She has left a lasting impression on her generation’s personality and viewpoints. Ellen has shown time and again that she doesn’t just stand up for the gay minority in America, she stands for peace among everyone and everywhere. Ellen’s lasting impression on America, her generation, and generations to come will be, to be kind to one another no matter what their race, ethnicity, orientation or beliefs.

Throughout her life so far, Ellen Degeneres has left a lasting legacy on her generation, and generations to come. She was one of the first few people to come out as gay on national television and her career launched from there. Ellen has received many, many awards for her achievements and is still collecting them. Ellen has proved to be an advocate for the gay minority in our society, but she is always an advocate for peace in general. Ellen has always been generous and donated to charity, but a rough estimate of the total money Ellen has given away is roughly $50 million
