Ella Enchanted Character Analysis

The difference in Ella’s character traits are different compared to the movie. The novel Ella Enchanted displays Ella as a rebellious, stubborn, and angry about having to obey others. However in the Movie she is a more level headed, kind, and she seems angrier with the way the non- human creatures are being treated rather than her curse. Her rebellious and stubborn nature is displayed throughout the book as she fights her curse tooth and nail until she has to succumb to its powers. However in the movie she immediately straightens and obeys her curse without hesitation. In the movie when she is given an order she simply makes a face of irritation, rolls her eyes, and accepts her curse like there is no other choice. Her anger in the movie is directed towards the ruling of the kingdom and the mistreatment of others rather than her curse. We see this in the beginning of the movie Ella Enchanted when Char in front of the kingdom fan club. Ella is standing on the fountain yelling “Say no to Ogrecide.” We also see this in her many conversations throughout the movie, as she condemns the way the kingdom is being run because of the mistreatment that the giants, ogres, and elf’s face by having to do things they are ordered to do for the kingdoms own pleasures. Ella says “You know Char and his uncle are responsible for the segregation of the kingdom.” Another example is while having a debate in class after Hattie states “we wouldn’t have today’s free enterprise system.” In regards to the king enslaving ogres and elf’s to be labors and entertainers. Ella then states “It’s only free because we’ve enslaved the poor creatures and they work for nothing.” This shows us Ella is level headed and kind in the movie, while throughout the book she is focused solely on herself and how to end the
