Founded in 1868, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks is oldest and largest fraternal organization in the country dedicated to the ideals of charity and patriotism. Ten years later, the first Massachusetts’ Elks lodge was founded in Boston, the same lodge John F. Kennedy belong to. Since then, over 70 lodges have been established with an active 40,000 membership. Last year alone, the Massachusetts Elks served hundreds of thousands of Massachusetts residents by educating youth on remaining drug-free, awarding thousands of dollars in college scholarships to Massachusetts students, honoring and aiding veterans and through many more programs. In the fiscal year ending March, 2016, Massachusetts Elks volunteered X hours and contributed X in cash donations to help build strong Massachusetts communities. …show more content…
