Elk Velvet Research Paper

Intro- Elk ranches and farms are a fairly new agricultural industry in the United States. We started domesticating them in about 1960, but we did not have much uses for them yet. Now elk farming is growing in the U.S., because of popular demand in foreign countries. Some reason’s that elk are farmed is for the bulls antler velvet, that they produce annually to cover their growing bone and cartilage that will soon turn into antlers. The elks meat is very high valued because of its great taste and low fat content; and lots of experienced hunters will pay good money so that they can hunt a prize elk for sport.
Elk are tough animals that require much less than an average beef cow, they will eat grasses, shrubs, and even tree bark. They also take up less space and time than what beef cattle take up, also using less resources. …show more content…
Velvet provides a wide variety of health benefits for many different health problems. Some of the main health issues that velvet is used to treat are; Joint pain, kidney and liver problems, gout, headaches, stomach ulcers, chills, low energy, and eczema. Antler velvet has been used in China and other European countries for many years for healing. Many people consume velvet on a regular now, because it is said to bring the body to homeostasis. Homeostasis means balance keep balanced and healthy, and it is always more healthy to have a balance.

Topic B- Elk meat is very desired because of its great taste and healthy attributes. Elk is close to beef in taste but has a lot less harmful elements to it, like less fat and cholesterol. It also has is protein packed and used in many high end restaurants. This meat is very tender and does not need to be cooked for long or else it will dry up and toughen. Elk is so popular that it has earned names like “The Heart Smart Red Meat”, and “The Better
